How many times have you heard, “I love you, but I’m not in love with you?”

How many times has a relationship started out wonderfully and then suddenly you’ve gotten dumped? There are ways to prevent these things from happening, but they require some serious work.

Love yourself. If you don’t love yourself and know yourself, you’re not in a place to be in a relationship. Even if he does fall in love with you, you’ll think less of him for doing so or not believe in him. . .unless you love yourself first.

Give him space. Don’t whine if he has to work late or wants to hang out with his friends on occasion – if he’s never away from you, how’s he going to miss you?

Be direct. If you want something, ask for it politely and clearly. Men don’t understand passive-aggressive and they don’t respond to subtle clues very well. Become the one woman out there that he can actually understand.

Take your time. This works for sharing your body as well as your deepest, darkest secrets. If you give him all that on the first date, there’s no mystery. And there’s no friendship built up. There’s nothing for him to fall in love with.
